Garonga Safari Camp is located in the private and pristine Makalali Nature Reserve, only 90 minutes from the Kruger National Park's Phalaborwa gate. Garonga is a classic luxury tented camp that prides itself on offering a "home away from home" ambiance, along with exceptional service and an unforgettable Big Five wildlife experience.
Garonga boasts six Luxury Tents that are built on raised platforms and are a gorgeous blend of stone and canvas. Each tent features large beds draped with mosquito netting, en-suite bathroom with double vanities, bathtub and outdoor shower, window bench seating, a writing desk, tea & coffee making facilities; and a deck complete with a hammock, comfortable patio furniture and views of the bushveld.
The camp facilities include a dining area, bar, massage sala, boma, curio shop and swimming pool.
The 22 000 hectare Makalali Nature Reserve is home to a rich diversity of animals including the Big Five, cheetah, hippo, zebra, giraffe, wild dog, hyena, wildebeest, and a number of antelope species. Makalali also has over 200 bird species with the migratory birds present from November to April.
The activities offered at the camp or nearby include morning and evening open-vehicle game drives led by professional guides, guided bush walks which afford up-close encounters with the fauna, flora and smaller wondrous creatures of the African bush, microlight flights over the Makalali Conservancy, an outdoor bush bath experience, and sleep-out experiences on a viewing deck that overlooks an active waterhole.

Great planning and service
Great planning and service, and everything worked like clockwork. We booked an Inyari Lodge safari with air with Safari.com. it wasn't clear if there will be 2 or three of us, so with Candis' help we booked a family chalet for 2 and added the third later when it was confirmed he can come. Candis put us on flights that maximized our game drive time (unlike some of the other guests) so we got all 6 drives in 3 nights. The lodge was great. Especially the game drives. We saw more than we hoped for. Additionally, Safari.com's insurance was very competitive. Highly recommended.

Very helpful even with ever changing trip!
Anja was very helpful in getting our tour booked for our group. With date changes, time changes, even up to the last minute flight changes, she was on top of things! We will use Safari.com in the future for our Kenya safari trips.

Shann was very responsive, provided multiple options, and was flexible to our changing needs and desires. Our travel selection was somewhat last minute and Shann was able to accommodate with many price points and reserves that were lower malaria risks.

Leigh-Ann was amazing.
Leigh-Ann was amazing. She worked incredibly hard to provide us with our complex safari in Botswana and our travel and accommodation in South Africa. Leigh-Ann was always very helpful and encouraging which must have been very difficult for her as we were within a very tight time schedule to arrange our holiday. She was very thoughtful and even included a list of the things we would need to take. I am so happy with the final outcome and I am very thankful to Leigh-Ann and the other Safari.com team members who worked so hard to make our dream safari a reality.
